The Art of Living in the Thousand Islands<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This was my second visit to the Thousand Islands. I fell in love the first time, and that love was renewed this year. This time, I embraced slowness, contemplation, and a greater focus on art, good food, and the pleasure of taking the time to truly take your time.<\/p>\n

The region is full of vibrant activities, such as Boldt Castle, bike rides, and helicopter tours that will get your adrenaline going, as I mention in this article<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

It also embodies the art of living\u2014no pun intended, since art is everywhere in Gananoque. Whether through its many art galleries, artisan shops, or events showcasing music and visual arts, art lovers will definitely get their fill.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the perfect kind of destination for a girls\u2019 getaway or a romantic escape. You wander slowly through the streets, admiring sculptures and murals that bring the town to life. You might treat yourself to a small local artwork, a handmade ceramic piece, or a unique creation for your home. You take the time to chat with shop owners and let yourself be inspired by their stories and creative processes.<\/p>\n

A few artistic stops not to miss in Gananoque<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you enjoy wandering without a set schedule, stepping into small inspiring boutiques or galleries, and discovering local talent, Gananoque is a true playground.<\/p>\n

Gan Arts Network<\/strong><\/h3>\n

More than just a gallery, it\u2019s a real space for creation and connection. You can admire the work of local artists and also take part in workshops, including pottery classes. I especially loved the small caf\u00e9 inside. It\u2019s the perfect place to take a break, watch the creative energy in action, and linger for a while.<\/p>\n

Art Apothecary <\/h3>\n

Behind this brand-new spot is Meli Cotrill, a former healthcare worker clearly driven by a desire to do good around her. She has just opened her shop, and you can already feel the passion behind the project. The gallery already brings together 53 artists since opening in April 2026 and even has a waiting list\u2014an obvious sign of the strong enthusiasm this space has quickly generated within the local creative community.<\/p>\n

I was tempted by an incredible perfume, but I could have mortgaged my house (which I don\u2019t own) to leave with jewelry, artwork, and countless unique objects. Just speaking with her, you can recognize the healthcare background in the way she said to me during our conversation: \u201cart is healing for the soul.\u201d Inspiring.<\/p>\n

J2 Gallery & Studio<\/h3>\n

A warm, welcoming space where you naturally linger to discover artists\u2019 work in a soft, authentic atmosphere. You can also admire the pieces by Jean Jewer, which add a very personal touch to the space. The co-owner and artist has an incredible life story. Take the time to talk with her\u2014you\u2019ll leave feeling uplifted.<\/p>\n

Thousand Islands Playhouse<\/h3>\n

An iconic venue, almost like a cocoon where plays are often created before traveling far beyond Gananoque. Ticket prices are quite reasonable, and The Springer Theatre is well designed, offering excellent visibility no matter where you sit.<\/p>\n

I saw the play Sugar Road<\/em> there and had some great laughs. Actress Debbie Collins was particularly outstanding\u2014she almost stole the show on her own. Unfortunately, the play has already ended, but the theatre offers excellent productions throughout the season.<\/p>\n

Gananoque Craft Market<\/b><\/h3>\n

A must-visit every Saturday during the summer season for craft lovers, right in front of the town hall. You meet passionate creators and find unique, carefully made pieces. It\u2019s the kind of place you stroll through \u201cjust to look\u201d and often leave with a little treasure. I had a soft spot for Johanne and her partner, both truly inspiring and very friendly.<\/p>\n

Johanne is behind Jovery Naturals, a line of handmade products including soaps, scrubs, and even non-toxic bath crayons for young children. If you want to buy some, I highly recommend it. You can also relax comfortably in one of the new chairs installed in the central square, coffee in hand.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Sculpture Gallery at Confederation Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A beautiful way to blend art and the outdoors. Walking through the park, you discover sculptures scattered throughout the landscape, making the stroll even more enjoyable. It\u2019s also a perfect spot to relax, read a good book, or enjoy a sandwich while watching geese wander by the lake.<\/p>\n

A little anecdote: during our visit, we were told there were 12 new colorful Adirondack (or Muskoka, depending on your preference) chairs, but we only saw 10 in front of the main square. We were a bit puzzled until the mystery was solved during our walk\u2014two of them were located near the water feature in Confederation Park. Another great place to sit and enjoy these new chairs in Gananoque.<\/p>\n

Coming back, again and again<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gananoque and the Thousand Islands are the kind of destination you discover, savor\u2026 and recommend without hesitation. It\u2019s the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave, both for its beauty and for the people you meet and the small discoveries you make along the way. In short, it\u2019s a destination to share freely and return to whenever the desire to slow down returns. I already can\u2019t wait to go back.<\/p>\n
